Elisabeth Sladen, 1948-2011

It was devastating to learn of Elisabeth Sladen's passing today.

As Sarah Jane Smith, she was the first companion that many young Doctor Who viewers ever knew, and a new generation of viewers got to meet her on The Sarah Jane Adventures.


Sarah -
I always think of Sarah Jane Smith leaving the TARDIS, asking the Doctor not to forget her. Oh, Sarah, as if anyone could.


Harry -
I remember Sarah Jane chasing after the Doctor in "The Hand of Fear", telling him: "I worry about you." He never had a stronger friend than Sarah.


I imagine Harry is greeting Sarah with a "Hello, Old Girl," somewhere right about now...

An Unearthly Introduction

Robert Shearman and Toby Hadoke are two well-known figures in the world of Doctor Who. The former is an award-winning writer who penned the new series story, "Dalek." The latter is renowned for his hilarious-yet-touching one-man stage show, "Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf."

On the first of January 2009, these two friends embarked on an epic quest to spend the year watching the entire series from start to finish, two episodes a day, every day. They recorded their observations and reflections and compiled them into a three-volume series, Running Through Corridors: Rob & Toby's Marathon Watch of Doctor Who.

Now meet our two bloggers, Sarah and Harry. They share a fandom of Doctor Who that began in the Fourth Doctor's era. She used to stay awake into the wee hours to follow the Doctor on public television in Illinois. He delighted in watching the Time Lord's adventures from behind the sofa in Ontario.

They are all grown up now, but their love of the show has never faded. If anything, it is stronger than ever.

Improbably brought together by the Internet, they were even more improbably brought together in person at a recent Doctor Who convention in Chicago. There, they bought copies of the first volume of Running Through Corridors. Got them signed and exchanged pleasant banter with its authors, even! Hurray!

Inspired by Robert and Toby and their book, Sarah and Harry are now embarking on an epic quest of their own: to watch the entire series from start to finish, 1963 to the present. They will record their own observations and reflections, moments of squee, laughter and tears, terror and loathing, appreciation and brutal sarcasm, and post the whole shebang here.

We hope you will join us on the Sofa of Rassilon as we watch all of Doctor Who. Running through corridors is optional.
